LOVE

Discussion Questions:

1. What’s something small that you’ve said you “love” this week (like Chick-fil-A or a movie)? What does that reveal about how we use the word “love”? How is love for those things different from love for others?

2. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1–7 together. Which of the descriptions of love in this passage stands out to you most, and why? Which one do you personally struggle with the most?

3. Read John 13:34-35. “By this everyone will know you are my disciples…” What does it look like for love to be your “proof of discipleship” in real life?

4. Jesus commands us to love others as He loved us. How would you describe the way Jesus loves you personally? How have you seen Him love you personally?

5. Read Matthew 22:36-40. Why do you think Jesus connects loving God with loving others? Is it possible for you to have one without the other? Why or why not?

6. Read 1 John 3:16 together. Love is shown in laying down our lives for others. What are some everyday ways we can “lay down” our lives (time, comfort, pride) for someone else?

7. Read 1 John 4:20-21. How does this challenge our modern understanding of love and “faith”? Has there been a time when your actions didn’t line up with what you claimed to believe?

8. Read Micah 6:8. This passage talks about doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly. Which of those three do you find easiest? Which one stretches you the most right now?

9. Share abut a time someone showed you undeserved mercy. How did it impact you? What keeps us from offering that same mercy to others?

10. Who is someone in your life that you need to love with more action than emotion right now? What’s one way you can take a step toward that this week?
