Faith After the Fire
Watch the video from Pastor Kaleb & discuss:
1. Have you ever felt completely exhausted, down, or even hopeless immediately after a great thing happened in your life? Talk about that time.
2. Read 1 Kings 19:1-4 together. Why do you think Elijah ran even after such a massive spiritual victory?
3. What expectations do you think Elijah had about how things should’ve gone? Have you ever felt disappointed when your efforts for God didn’t seem to make a difference? Discuss how those moments felt.
4. Read 1 Kings 19:5-8. How does God respond to Elijah’s despair? What does this tell you about the way the Lord responds to your own feelings of despair?
5. Why do you think God starts by meeting Elijah’s physical needs first? When you're feeling overwhelmed, depressed, or anxious, what kind of physical care do you tend to neglect? How does this physical neglect lead to running spiritually dry?
6. Read 1 Kings 19:9-10. Elijah thinks he’s the only one left who is faithful. Have you ever felt completely alone in your faith, like no one really gets it?
7. Read 1 Kings 19:11-13. God shows up in the whisper, not the wind, earthquake, or fire. Why do you think God does that and what do you think God is trying to show Elijah—and us—about how He speaks and works in our lives?
8. Read 1 Kings 19:14-21. What stands out to you about Elijah's continued complaint and the Lord’s response?
9. Have you ever found yourself in a season of struggling or facing burn out? What does this passage teach us about the way God treats us when we’re burnt out or spiritually struggling?
10. Talk about the importance of community when you’re facing struggle in your life.
11. End the night by sharing one area that you feel discouraged, alone, or just spiritually burned out. Pray over these areas in one another's lives.
