Love Your Enemies

This teaching confronts us with one of the most challenging commands in Scripture: loving our enemies. Drawing from Matthew 5:43-48, we're invited to examine the radical difference between merely following external religious rules and allowing God to transform our hearts from the inside out. The stunning truth that many of us miss is that we were once enemies of God ourselves. Before we knew Christ, we stood in rebellion against our Creator, yet God demonstrated the ultimate act of enemy-love by sending Jesus to die for us while we were still His enemies. This isn't just ancient history; it's the foundation of our faith. When we grasp that God loved us at our worst, it changes everything about how we view the difficult people in our lives. The challenge is for us to move beyond the comfortable practice of loving only those who love us back, even tax collectors and sinners do that. Instead, we're called to a higher standard that reflects God's own character: showing compassion, praying for, and genuinely desiring good for those who oppose us. This isn't about feelings or condoning wrong behavior; it's about choosing to act in love even when everything in our human nature screams for revenge or avoidance.
